HBO'S " ONE YEAR IN A LIFE OF CRIME " 1989 PART ONE VERY RARE DOCUMENTARY DVD

This gritty documentary unflinchingly depicts the lives of the down and out. The camera follows three professional criminals from Newark, NJ, for twelve months. It records their shoplifting excursions to the suburbs, the gloom and cruelty of their domestic lives, and their tangles with the law. While the program show their daily and nightly struggles, it does not take a narrow view of their predicament. Its painful portraits of wasted lives makes you consider the broad social reasons why criminals do what they do. It also reassess the remedies in which our society places its faith.

You will meet in this documentary:

Rob: Rob has charisma and charm, and is very good at stealing. With a girlfriend he treats like crap and a young daughter at home to support, he steals daily to support her, and a growing cocaine habit.
Freddy: Freddy, just released from jail, also has a young daugher. With his IV heroin habit eating him alive, he must steal daily to stay high. While on the outside he seems happy, when his girlfriend finally has had enough and leaves, his pain is apparent.
Mike: Wanted by the cops, Mike lives with Robert along with his long-suffering girlfriend. She's pregnant, and Mike hits her in order to control her. As he slaps her on camera, he almost seem proud of the control he has over as he screams for her to get into the bedroom.

Twenty years ago when "One Year in the Life of Crime" came out I remember being shocked that the movie industry would allow a film so gritty and real to come out. This is a true anti-drug film. If you haven't already seen this, it will make you think twice about ever touching drugs. Anyone looking for "reality" TV should see this movie. You will glued to the screen the entire time. Filmed in true "Cinema verité" (real- no scripts), and in superb quality. No guidance, no judgement, just direct observation. Its like a fly on the scene! You will come away much the wiser about addiction and what it does to a person each day.

Never released on DVD, this is transferred from a long out of print original VHS source. Picture and Sound is an 9 out of 10. Quality is VERY good considering the film is 20 years old. There is no snow, and picture quailty and sound is great. This is a DVD-R, it is sold from collector to collector and absolutely no rights are implied or given. DVD has no artwork, and will be shipped in a plain plastic sleeve to prevent scratching.
